Since everybody has switched over to Broad Band Connection, I have decided to have one BBC (Broad Band Connection).
My next question is to whom I should contact. In Chennai, we have ISPs like BSNL, HATHWAY,
AIRTEL , RELIANCE, TATA INDICOM etc.
Initially, I wanted to have minimum budgeted BBC. I have choosen HATHWAY since it provided 1 GB data transfer per month and rent is Rs.250 per month which sounded very cheap for me and got the connection. Data connectivity is 1 Mbps. (one mega bit per second).
There is a difference between 1MBps and 1Mbps. (1 MBps is one Mega Byte per second).
I was asked to pay 4 months rent in advance with service tax. I was given 4GB download limit for 4 months.
Next day after making cheque payment, I got the BBC. The speed was very much terrific.
I have uploaded my blog, my website etc and I was very much impressed with the connectivity and speed.
Within a month, this connectivity got disconnected and when I contacted the ISP, they told me that entire 4 GB was already exhausted.
I could not believe this. At my office, I checked the usage of BBC under my user ID, I found that daily several hundreds of KB was downloaded.
Then I enquired my son who accepted that he downloaded many MP3 songs, movies and games daily.
ISP succeeded in getting 4 months rent for 4 GB in one month. They know about the customers.
That is why they charge several months rent in advance knowing that entire download limit will be exhausted in short span of time.
I have to run my blog and website. I have tasted the speed of BBC. Eventhough I have dail up connection, I did not want to use it.
Again I have contacted the ISP to renew the account. Meantime, somebody from the said company contacted me and promised to do the renewal. He came and gave me a proposal and asked me to fill up the same.
I told him that my information is already available with the company and asked him what is the necessity to fill up it again ?
He honestly accepted that he would commission if this renewal is treated as fresh.
I did not say anything and asked to fill up the form on my behalf and I only signed. Renewal or fresh, it is not going to make any difference as far as I am concerned.
Next day, he came along with the Engineer and disconnected the old modem and put the new one and went away.
This time, he gave different user id for me.
This new BBC was working fine for me for quite some time. I instructed my son not to download MP3 songs or movies or games and threatned him that if BBC connection goes, it would not be renewed. My son agreed for that.
After two months, I got problem in connectivity. I could not depend on this BBC. I did not know when it would disconnect due to poor transmission. I had to contact the customer care for restoration several times.
I got irritated. I decided not to renew with this ISP on expiry of BBC. After 3 and 1/2 months
BBC dead permanently. When contacted the customer care, I was shocked to hear the my 4 GB was already exhausted.
On enquiring my son, he promised that he did not download anything. (Ofcourse, he had got his examinations during these 3 months).
I again checkedup in my office. This time , I was the culprit. I have uploaded many graphics in my website and blogs and each time, when tested and uploaded, these KBs were added.
They have not sent any communication to my email id that the limit is exhausted.
I have sent email to them and asked for explanation why I was not informed.
They did not responded to my email. I have sent another reminder and for which they have responded by asking my mobile number to contact me.
I replied to that email. Till date, no one has contacted me.
Then I have contacted their customer care and asked the same question. He told me that this
usage information was sent to my hathway email id only and not to my regular email id.
I told him that many customers would see their regular email id only and not the new email id given by hathway. He accepted it and he told me that he would inform his retention team to contact me for renewal.
I have sent another email asking them why nobody contacted me and asked them to take the modem as I am no longer interested to renew (by the time, the 4 months period was over). BBC.
Nobody came to take the modem. It is lying with me only.
I have decided to change ISP and changed ISP BSNL.
